Undisclosed views of Music School made public
A series of undisclosed views of Music School have been made public on the blog site,
Heritage Alert, that graphically illustrate just how significantly the proposed building will dominate the Arts Centre site and how totally unsympathetic the proposed new building will be in respect to the existing heritage buildings.
The decision by the University and the Arts Centre Board not to release these images raises, in my opinion,
the following questions:
- For what reason have these critical elevation not been disclosed by the University and the Arts Centre Board?
- Why were they not released either for the public launch of the proposal or at a recent public meeting of the Arts Centre Board and University held at the Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce?
Given the significance of what the drawings reveal, I am not surprised that they haven't been used to promote the Music School to the community.

Music School proposal "Impact Assessment"
An examination of the impact of the proposed Music School building from Heritage Alert

The four storey Music Centre will cast a large shadow in the summer evenings, as well as create wind corridors. During the height of summer the Dux de Lux courtyard will lose the sun at about 5pm.

The Hereford Street view to the North West shows the shear scale of the building. Obscured by the cars is an underground carpark entrance.
